about
I came to practice one day at the beginning of 2021. Covid was still raging, a new staggering death toll had just been reported. We kept trying to play and I kept bursting into tears, so my sisters banished me to the porch to go write something. I came back with a voice memo of the verse and chorus to what would become the snare/whitenoise beat - I hated it, deemed it “bad Bjork” and forgot about it for a while. A few weeks later Amelia was putting her four year-old to bed and he asked, “Mom, why are we born if we are just going to die?” Her rambling, circuitous answer became the end of the song. - Rachel
lyrics
Constantly Dying
Tears are like hiccups
They start and don’t stop
The world is always dying
So why are we still trying
To drink and keep drinking the last little drop
I’m sad for your pillows
I’m sad for your drawers
Constantly dying
Fool for the trying
Edging on losing
Afraid of the bruising
Fear is like hiccups
It starts and won’t stop
Losing all my teeth and
Losing you and even more sleep
I’m scared for the trees and I’m scared for their acorns
I’ll hide beneath my bed
And never see them grow at all
Constantly dying
Fool for the trying
Edging on losing
Afraid of the bruising
Stars are all dying
Red giants crying
Spinning in decay
Birthing a new day
